18 villagers shot dead at mosque in Nigeria

At least 18 people have been killed in a gun attack on a mosque in Nigeria's northern state of Niger. Reuters quoted locals as saying that the gunmen came on a motorbike and attacked.
The attackers arrived in the Mashigu area of the local Maza-Kuka village around 5 am on Monday local time.
Locals alleged that they entered the mosque as soon as they arrived and opened fire at random. More than 10 people have been abducted in the incident. At least 20 people were injured in the attack, they said.
The Niger police commissioner said the attack was caused by a conflict between the two sides in the village.
The Maza-Kuka area is located 270 km from the capital. There have been frequent attacks recently.
Gunmen also recently attacked a Nigerian prison. They raided the prison in southwestern Nigeria and freed many prisoners.
A week ago, at least 40 people were killed in an attack in the northern state of Sokoto.
