2 killed in Lightning strike in Naogaon

2 farmers were killed in a lightning strike in Porsha, Naogaon. The incident took place on Friday, May 13 at around 10 am while harvesting paddy in a field near the Punarbhaba river in the Indian border area.


The deceased were identified as Abdus Samad, 35, of Islampur village and Abdur Noah, 55, of Raghunathpur village.

Porsha Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahurul Haque confirmed the matter.

Locals said Abdus Samad and Abdur Noah had been harvesting paddy along the Punarbhaba river near the Indian border since morning. At this time, when it started raining heavily, lightning started. They were struck by lightning and died on the spot. Later, other farmers and workers in the field recovered the body and brought it back.

The OC of Porsha police station said the sky had been cloudy since morning. It was raining heavily. Abdus Samad and Abdur Noah were struck by lightning while cutting paddy in the field. Police have been dispatched to the spot.

Porsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hamid Reza said the government would provide financial assistance to the families of those affected by the natural disaster.
