Bangladesh elected member of executive board of 3 UN agencies

Bangladesh has been elected a member of the United Nations Commission on Narcotics (CND) for the next three years. Bangladesh has also been re-elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF and UN Women.

This information has been given in a press release of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York on Tuesday.

The new council of CND, an affiliate of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), will take office next January, it said.

The election was held yesterday by a direct vote of the member states at the ECOSOC management meeting at the UN headquarters in New York.

In this highly competitive election, Bangladesh got the second highest number of votes (43 votes).

After the election victory, Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Rabab Fatima, told the media, "This victory is an expression of the international community's confidence in Bangladesh's leadership in the multilateral forum."
