The Thirteenth (Budget) Session of the 50th and Eleventh National Parliament of Bangladesh will begin on Wednesday, June 02 at 5 pm. President. Abdul Hamid has convened the session in accordance with the powers given in the constitution. The budget proposal for the fiscal year 2021-2022 will be tabled in the parliament on Thursday, June 03, the second working day of the session.

On the same day at 3 pm, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will present the third budget of his tenure, the 21st budget of the Awami League government and the 50th budget of Bangladesh. And this will be the second budget session during the global epidemic. Earlier, the budget session for the current financial year began on June 10 last year amid the Corona epidemic. The budget for the fiscal year 2020-2021 was presented on 11 June.

Meanwhile, all preparations for the budget session have been completed by the Parliament Secretariat. The session is expected to be short-lived at the time of the Corona epidemic. The session may start on June 02 and end on July 03 with adjournment. After a brief discussion, the budget will be passed by June 30, according to the rules.

This time the size of the budget may be over six lakh crore rupees. The budget for the current (2020-2021) financial year was five lakh 68 thousand crore. And the first budget of independent Bangladesh, that is, in 1972-73, the size of the budget was only 6 crore. Tajuddin Ahmed presented the first budget of the country.

In the midst of the Corona epidemic, the budget session will be held again in accordance with strict hygiene rules. The budget session will end shortly. With a break, the session can last 10 to 13 working days.

Meanwhile, Dhaka-14 MP Aslamul Haque died on April 04, the last working day of the twelfth session of the parliament. As a result, on the first day of the thirteenth session on June 02, the adjournment of the session is to be announced after the discussion of the condolence motion on the late Member of Parliament.

Besides, after the presentation of the budget, after the weekly leave on June 04 and 05, the discussion on the supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2020-2021 will start in the parliament on the working day on Sunday, June 06. After the discussion on the supplementary budget, the supplementary budget is to be passed on June 07. After that, discussions will be started on the proposed 2021-2022 financial year with a break. And it may pass on Wednesday, June 30.

Due to the Corona situation, MPs, ministers, officials and employees of the Parliament Secretariat will have to enter the Parliament Secretariat again with a negative certificate of Covid Test. Members of Parliament can only attend the session if the negative certificate is matched again after every 72 hours. Those who have been vaccinated will also need a COVID negative certificate.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, 110 to 120 MPs will be invited to attend the session every day. Parliament will sit at a safe distance in compliance with the health rules.

Once again, the media workers have to cover the session from the live broadcast on Sangsad Bangladesh Television. However, on the day of presentation of the budget and the end of the session, there may be an opportunity to enter the Parliament Lounge. But in that case Corona Negative Certificate will be required. For this, the covid test has started from Tuesday under the management of Sangsad Medical Center.
