Abdulrazak Gurnah wins 2021 Nobel prize in literature

Abdulrazak Gurnah of Tanzania won the Nobel Prize in Literature this year. The award is given in recognition of the impact of colonialism and the portrayal of the fate of refugees in the Gulf region.

Local time on Thursday, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Gurnah as the winner.

Tanzanian novelist becomes the first black African writer in 35 years to win the prestigious award.
