Two workers have been burnt in an AC blast at a restaurant in Ashkona, south of the capital. They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The incident took place at Blue Bird Restaurant on the 2nd floor of Ashkona Komar Uddin Tower around 10 am on Sunday. The injured are Abdul Kaiyum (20), and Faisal (15) -- both cleaners of Bluebird Chinese Restaurant.

DakshinKhan police sub-inspector (SI) Rashed said that in the morning, two cleaners entered the restaurant to clean it. After a while, AC exploded there. They were both burnt.

He further said that after receiving the news, they went to the spot and saw that everything inside the 2nd-floor restaurant was destroyed. The wall of another building next door also collapsed in the blast.

Victim Faisal said that in the morning, the two of them opened the gate of the restaurant and went inside to clean it. After a while, there were multiple explosions with a loud noise. When their bodies caught fire, they ran outside. Couldn't figure out what caused the explosion.

According to colleagues and relatives, 12 employees of the restaurant live in a house in the Ashkona Bazar area. Faisal worked at the restaurant for two months. And Qayyum has been at work for the past week.

Burn Institute Resident Surgeon SM Ayub Hossain said 28 percent of Faisal's body and 96 percent of Qayyum's were burnt. Kawum's condition is critical.
