'There will be an agreement with Sinopharm to jointly produce vaccine'

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said that Bangladesh is going to sign an agreement with China's Sinopharm for joint production of coronavirus vaccine along with trade agreement.

The foreign minister told at the state guest house Padma on Monday afternoon. Before speaking, the Foreign Minister paid a courtesy call on Chinese Ambassador Li Jiming.

"We received 7 million vaccines a month since we started buying vaccines from China's Sinopharm," he said.

"Sinopharm has promised us to give vaccine continuously. There is a huge demand for their vaccines. For this, China wanted to know the number of additional vaccines in advance. We gave that."

Referring to the joint production of Sinopharm with various countries, the Foreign Minister said, "Sinopharm has been going into joint production with Turkey since August. After discussions with me, the Chinese ambassador sent a draft memorandum of understanding on joint production to their Ministry of Health. It could take up to two months for production to begin after the agreement is signed.
