Professor Ahmad Kabir passes away

Ahmed Kabir, former professor Department of Bangla at Dhaka University (DU), has died (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun). He died at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday, January 03 in the evening. Ahmed Kabir, 76, was diagnosed with cancer.

Ahmed Kabir's daughter Upma Kabir, a professor of computer science and engineering at Dhaka University, said she was diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago. Ahmed Kabir's first janaza was held at Fuller Road of the university at 11 pm on Sunday, January 03.

After placing his body at the foot of invincible Bengal at 8 am on Monday, the family informed that he would be buried at his village home in Mirsarai, Chattogram.

Professor Ahmed Kabir is survived by his wife and three daughters. His three daughters are teachers of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Dhaka University.

Ahmad Kabir was born in 1944 in Mirsarai, Chattogram.

He has taught and researched on literary theory, literary forms and medieval literature in various institutions including the Bangla Department of Dhaka University. He edited the language of Banglapedia and History of Bengal published by Bangladesh Asiatic Society.

The death of Professor Ahmed Kabir, Vice Chancellor of the University Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep grief. He said, 'Professor Ahmed Kabir was an academic and researcher. He was proficient in analyzing and reviewing society and literature. He has made a tremendous contribution to creative modern Bengali literary practice and editing.'
