Arrested in the case of clash in presence of law minister

Six people were arrested on Saturday night in connection with a clash between two parties in the presence of law minister Anisul Haque at Kasba in Brahmanbaria. Supporters of two Awami League candidates of mayor in the municipal elections clashed last Friday. The next night, the police filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act.

In the case filed by the police, 28 people have been named and 200 to 250 unidentified people have been accused. Additional police were deployed at intersections in the city on Sunday to avoid clashes.

The six arrested are Russell (30), Sumon Mia (25), Hridoy Khan (21), Md. Salauddin (27), Robin Mia (20) and Qayyum Mia (20). They are all accused in the case. They were sent to the court in Brahmanbaria this afternoon.

According to police and local sources, Law Minister Anisul Haque visited his constituency Kasba on Friday after a year. Incumbent Awami League nominee for the post of mayor of Kasba Municipality Emran Uddin and his supporters were standing in the street in front of the Upazila Parishad to welcome the law minister.

At that time, MA Aziz, another Awami League candidate for the post of president and mayor of Kasba Upazila Juba League, and his supporters were going to the Upazila Parishad with a convoy of motorcycles. At this time there was a clash between the supporters of the two sides. In addition to chasing and throwing brickbats, 10 motorcycles were vandalized and burnt.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kasba Police Station Mohammad Alamgir Bhuiyan said, "Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kasba Police Station Md. Anwar Hossain filed the case as a plaintiff. Six people have been arrested in the case.
