RAB has arrested speedboat owner Chan Mia alias Chandu in a case filed in connection with the death of 26 people in a speedboat accident at Shibchar in Madaripur.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the matter on Sunday, May 09.

"Twenty-six people were killed in a speedboat accident recently," he said.

This caused a stir in the whole country. Speedboat owner Chan Mia alias Chandu, the accused in the case, was arrested from Keraniganj.

The details will be announced at a press conference held at the RAB Media Center this afternoon, the RAB official said.

On the morning of May 03, a speedboat from Shimulia collided with a sand-loaded bulkhead anchored at the wharf 26 people died on the spot.

A case was filed against the tenant of Shimulia Ghat, the owner and driver of the boat and four others. Naval Police SI Lokman Hossain filed the case with Shibchar Police Station.

Shibchar Police Station OC Miraj Hossain said the case was registered in the name of Yakub Bepari, the lessee of the wharf, Chan Mia alias Chandu, the owner of the boat, Zahirul Islam and the driver Shah-Alam. Another 10-12 people have been made unidentified accused in the case.
