Arrested for selling illegal firearms to criminals

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has arrested four arms dealers on charges of selling illegal weapons.

Asaduzzaman, the additional commissioner of the DMP's CTTC, said this at a press conference on Monday.

He said they were arrested from the Jatrabari area on Sunday evening.

The arrested are-Md. Hossain (55), Lal Tan Pankhoa (41), Md. Ali Akbar (55) and Adilur Rahman Sujan (38).

Five firearms and 301 rounds of ammunition were seized from them during the arrest, the press release said.

Additional Commissioner Asaduzzaman said one of the arrested was the headman of Saichal Pankhoa Para in Barkal, Rangamati. He used to smuggle arms and ammunition from the Myanmar border in Mizoram and Bandarban in bordering India to Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, and Dhaka in the hilly areas.

The detainees could not show valid documents of the seized weapons. He also said that a case has been filed against them under the Arms Act at Jatrabari police station.
