A rickshaw puller named Saminul Kari (26) was killed when he was hit by a CNG-powered autorickshaw in the Elephant Road area of ​​the capital. A passenger in the rickshaw was injured. The accident took place on the road in front of the Medical Staff Quarters under Newmarket Police Station on Sunday morning.

Newmarket police sub-inspector (SI) Raihan Uddin said a CNG-powered autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction hit a battery-powered rickshaw carrying passengers on Elephant Road. The driver Saminul fell from the rickshaw. After rescuing him in a critical condition, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 3:45 am and the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The CNG-powered autorickshaw was engaged in delivering newspapers, said Sub-Inspector Raihan.

"He said the CNG-powered autorickshaw along with its driver was seized in the incident. The driver's name is Parvez (30). He used to deliver morning paper magazines."

Aminul Islam, the uncle of the deceased, said that Saminul had gone out in a rickshaw at night.

According to police, Saminul's body has been kept in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College for autopsy.

His home is in East Kamal Batti village of Bakshiganj Upazila of Jamalpur district. His father's name is Md. Shonahar. Saminul lived with his family in the Jhaulahati area of ​​Kamrangirchar.
