Rock icon Azam Khan's 10th death anniversary today

He was born on 28 February 1950 in Dhaka. His full name is Mahbubul Haque Khan, best known as Azam Khan, was a Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, record producer, and lead singer for the pop-rock band "Uchcharon". He was also a freedom fighter. He took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

He has taken pop and band music to another height in Bangladesh. Azam Khan was also known as 'Pop Emperor' and 'Guru'. On June 5, 2011, the pop emperor left for the land of no return.

The specialty of his songs was the addition of native themes to the pop songs and the distinctive style in the performance. Azam Khan's popular songs include 'Bangladesh' 'In the Slum Beside the Rail Line', 'Ore Saleka Ore Maleka', 'Alal O Dulal', 'Anamika', 'Abhimani', 'Aasi Aasi Bole' etc. In 2019, the Bangladesh government posthumously awarded him the Ekushey Padak, the country's second highest civilian honor for his contribution to music.
