'Bangladesh-US relations will be even stronger'

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the excellent bilateral and friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States will be further strengthened in the years to come.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, the USA on Wednesday evening.

The Foreign Minister said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and the United States, a very cordial and hopeful meeting was held with US Secretary of State Blinken in Washington.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, a congratulatory message sent by US President Joe Biden to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was read-out by Momen.

"April 4 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States, which is an important milestone for us," he said, quoting a statement from Biden's letter.

After the war of liberation in 1971, Bangladesh has become a model for other countries in the world in terms of economic efforts and development through the efforts of the people of Bangladesh to build a war-torn country.

The Secretary of State also said that in his letter, Joe Biden reaffirmed that the partnership between the United States and Bangladesh would undoubtedly become stronger in the next 50 years.

The national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States were played at the beginning of the program. The Foreign Minister then paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu with flowers at the Bangabandhu Corner at the Consulate. Later, the Foreign Minister cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Consulate General.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington Shahidul Islam was present on the occasion as a special guest. Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami Iqbal Ahmed conducted the program and gave a welcome speech. The event was attended by prominent figures from Miami and members of the local Bangladeshi community.
