Staff Correspondent
Five Indian trucks loaded with bleaching powder caught fire at the TTI ground in Benapole port. In a moment, the bleaching powder in the trucks is burnt to ashes. However, no casualties were reported.

The incident took place at around 5:30 am on Friday, April 15 at the TTI ground of Benapole Port Truck Terminal. When the locals were informed, three units of the fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control in a three-hour effort. Earlier, an Indian truck loaded with some bleaching powder caught fire in the Link Road area goods were burnt. Even then the port authorities did not take any effective action regarding bleaching powder.

Witnesses said that the bleaching powder caught fire when it was overheated and with water. Suddenly in the morning a truck loaded with bleaching powder caught fire. Later, four more trucks caught fire. It is thought the blaze may have been caused by excessive heat in the truck carrying the bleaching.

Benapole Port Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said bleaching powder usually catches fire due to excessive heat. However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained without investigation.
