Bill Gates and Melinda Gates have announced their divorce today after 27 years of marriage. Announcing the divorce, they said, "We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives."

The US billionaire couple announced their divorce on Twitter on Tuesday, saying, "After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end the marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives."

They first two met when Melinda Bill Gates joined Microsoft in the late 1980s. Then they got married. They have three children. They were jointly running the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In a statement posted on Twitter announcing the divorce, the couple wrote, "We have raised three wonderful children and established a foundation that works to save lives and protect the health of people around the world."

They said, "We ask for space and privacy for our family to as we begin to navigate this new life."

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, an organization founded in 2000 by the couple, has spent billions of dollars on various charitable causes, in addition to fighting infectious diseases and encouraging children to be vaccinated.

Bill Gates is the fourth richest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine. His total assets amount to 12 thousand 400 crore US dollars.

Bill Gates founded Microsoft in the 1980s. Microsoft is now the world's largest software company.
