Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has termed the BNP's call for national unity as a new joke with the people.

He said those who could not even hold a procession for the release of their party chairperson should not talk about the movement for the fall of the government.

He was speaking at the Magura District Awami League's triennial conference on Saturday, May 14 morning, virtually attached to his residence in the capital.

Obaidul Quader also said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had jumped into the Bay of Bengal and reached the island of Sri Lanka due to the failure of the movement and the election.

Mentioning the wonder of the world in achieving development in the country today as Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina came to Bangladesh, the General Secretary of Awami League said, "Sheikh Hasina has achieved success by leading efficiently in every crisis and calamity."

Bangladesh will become Sri Lanka - In response to the statement of BNP leaders, Obaidul Quader said, Bangladesh is not indebted, Bangladesh has also lent to Sri Lanka. He said if the people of the country were happy, Mirza Fakhrul would get upset.

In response to the recent remarks of the BNP general secretary, the bridge minister said, "If anyone commits misdeeds in the Awami League, he has to be punished." There is not a single instance of BNP punishing them.

Acting President of Magura District Awami League AFM Abdul Fattah presided over the conference held at the historic Nomani Maidan. Awami League presidium members Kazi Zafar Ullah, Abdur Rahman, joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organizing secretary BM Muzammel Haque and others were present.
