22 bodies recovered so far in Brahmanbaria boat sinking

A team of divers has recovered the bodies of 22 people in a boat sinking incident in Brahmanbaria till 10 am on Saturday. About 50 people are still missing.

Of the bodies recovered, 18 have been identified.

Taufiqul Islam Bhuiyan, deputy assistant director of the Brahmanbaria Fire Service, told: 'Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisur Rahman said three people have been arrested in connection with the sinking of the boat.'

He said locals arrested three people from Union Charaislampur next to the accident site on Friday evening and handed them over to Vijayanagar police station.

The detainees are Jamir Mia, son of Afzal Mia of Sholabari village in Panishwar union of Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria, his two accomplices Khokon Mia and Russell Mia.

Vijayanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rabeya Afsar Saima said all types of shipping from the Champaknagar waterway have been temporarily suspended on Saturday morning.
