'If situation is normal, schedule of book fair will increase'

Due to Corona, the time limit of the book fair has been reduced by half. State Minister for Culture K. M. Khalid said that the time of Amar Ekushey Book Fair would be extended if the rate of infection is decreasing.

The minister said this while addressing a press conference on the overall situation of the book fair at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy here on Monday.

The minister said, "This fair is a fair for publishers. They have been waiting for this fair for a long time, we do not want the vitality of the fair to be harmed in any way."

It was informed at the press conference that this time 776 units have been allotted to 534 organizations. There are 35 pavilions in it. The main area of ​​the fair is seven lakh square feet.

Culture Ministry Secretary Abul Mansur Ahmed said, "We are able to organize the fair this time with the determination of the Prime Minister. We will abide by the health protocol of the government at the fair. We will have a mobile court at the fair. No one can stay inside the fair without a mask. We told the Publishers and Vendors Association that every shop should have a No Mask No Sale banner."

The Member Secretary of the Book Fair Organizing Committee Jalal Ahmed was also present at the press conference presided over by Bangla Academy President Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda.
