'Booster dose to start this month'

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that the booster dose (third dose) will be given to prevent coronavirus over 60 years of age this December.

The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Monday, December 13.

"We have decided to give a booster dose," he said.

"I have also planned to give it to those who are in the age of sixties and frontline workers.

Activities are going on in this regard. The instructions we gave. The Sdurokkha app needs some updates. We hope to start work this month."

Preparations are underway to give a booster dose, the minister said, adding that the preparations made by the health ministry will also be done. A priority has to be set.

Accordingly, we will give priority to those who are older or more at risk of death. We will also give those who are frontline workers.

The health minister said, "We have kept our hospitals as they were. It has been further strengthened. We are installing about 80 oxygen generators.

Of these, 30 are nearing completion. We will actually complete the rest in the next few days."

Asked about vaccinations, Zahid Maleque said, "We have given 11 crore vaccines so far.

There are plans to give another one and a half to two crores vaccines this month. We have about 4 crore vaccines. Today we will get 4 million doses of vaccine from the UK."

The health minister said, "As far as you know about Omicron, the Bangladesh women's cricket team came from Zimbabwe and they were in quarantine in Hotel Sonargaon.

We tested them several times and found omicrons of the two. We got this information by genome sequencing.

We have also arranged tests for those who are in the hotel and have come in contact with them. We have also strengthened border screening and airport screening for this reason."
