Bus fares increased by 27 percent

The fares of buses and minibuses plying within Dhaka and Chattogram are increasing by 26.5 per cent and the fares of Inter-city buses are increasing by 27 per cent.

The government committee headed by the chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) fixed the new fare on Sunday afternoon.

After the meeting, the BRTA chairman told: the new fare would be effective from Monday.

However, this fare will not be applicable for CNG powered buses.

The meeting started at 11:30 am today.

The meeting was attended by government committee members, transport leaders, the energy department, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and delegates of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder presided over the closed-door meeting.

Inter-city bus fare has been increased from Tk 1.42 to Tk 1.80.

In the case of buses plying in Dhaka and Chattogram, the fare has been increased from Tk 1.70 to Tk 2.15 and for minibuses Tk 1.60 to Tk 2.05.

The minimum fares for buses and minibuses have been fixed at Tk 10 and Tk 8, respectively.
