Wall collapse in Mirpur: Child dies

A child named Nazma Akhter (12) died when the boundary wall of an old building in West Kazipara in the capital's Mirpur collapsed late on Tuesday night.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost inspector Bachchu Mia has confirmed the veracity of this information on Wednesday.

Nazma was rescued and brought to the hospital by her uncle Mubarak Hossain. He said Nazma was passing by an old four-storey building next to their house last evening. Then part of the wall of the building collapsed and fell on his head. He was seriously injured in the head. She was first taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She later died at around 3 am yesterday while undergoing treatment.

Nazma's house is in Bandh-Ushan village of Durgapur upazila of Netrokona. Her father's name was Jinnah Ali. She is a rickshaw puller by profession. Nazma is the second of one brother and three sisters.
