Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that permanent accommodation will be provided in 8 sections for children with autism and disability.

PM made the remarks while taking a virtual part in a program organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Saturday morning on the occasion of the 15th World Autism Awareness Day 2022.

The PM said, "I know that everyone has such thoughts, what will happen to his child if his parents don't think that way. We have that thought too. We have an initiative for that, if we make arrangements through the trust we have formed when there is no guardian, no one to see and hear then they can live there. Through trusts, we can build such hostels or dormitories."

And there will be people to protect or take care of them. And on behalf of the government, at least as long as I am here, I can say that we will provide all kinds of cooperation from the government. We should take such steps not only in Dhaka city but in every divisional city or big city. Because it's a reality, who would look after them if they didn't have parents? Not everyone looks at it with sincerity anymore. Some people become so selfish that they don't even see their parents. He also fights over the property. In that case, who will see these children! We will make such arrangements for them, ”said the PM.

She further said that after independence our 19 districts were big, in all the districts Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib went through huge areas for social welfare. There are orphanages or other institutions but we want to do something for the disabled. It is the responsibility of all healthy people to take care of children with disabilities and autism. Let no one ignore them. We are taking Bangladesh forward, taking this forward is for our people of all walks of life. Everyone will have a beautiful life, a better life.

The PM said, "We will build an institution that can provide permanent housing or employment." I will ask the Minister of Social Welfare to come up with a project on this. First, we will do it in 6 sections, we will do it in each district in phases. As our economy grows stronger, so does poverty. The people of the village are getting financial prosperity. If you spend something here, it will be useful for the country. Inshallah, I will make arrangements for such housing, training, and employment through trust.

Sheikh Hasina said, "I have always tried to do something for the disabled people of this country since I came into the government." However, we did not have awareness about autism at that time. But then we take action for the disabled. I set up the National Disability Development Foundation in 1999. The importance and awareness of autism have increased at home and abroad due to the tireless efforts of Saima Wazed Hossain Putul, Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Neuro-Developmental Disorders and Autism. Basically, I learned from her. When she was studying at the university.

Highlighting various initiatives of the government, she said, "We established the Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Trust in 2014." Since the establishment of the trust, we have also undertaken various activities to improve the quality of life of people with Neuro-Developmental Disabilities (NDD) including autism. We have given a grant of Taka 143 crore to this trust. From 2016 till now 5,701 people have been given a grant of Taka 4 crore 69 lakh from this trust. Bangabandhu Suraksha Bima has also been introduced to protect the health of NDD people. Launched experimentally, it will be spread across Bangladesh if effective. We have formulated the Comprehensive Special Education Policy on Disability, 2019. As per the policy, special school establishment and approval activities are underway. 47 special schools are being run with government grants all over the country. A special curriculum is also being created.
