Gunmen have attacked a coal mine in southwestern Pakistan. The country's officials said three workers were killed. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

This information was given in a report of Arab News on Sunday, November 21.

Suhail Anwar Hashmi, the top administrator of the Harnai district in Pakistan's Balochistan province, said the attack took place in the Sharag area early Sunday morning. Most of the coal mines in the province are located there.

Harnai is located about 200 km northeast of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. He also said that anti-terrorism teams and local police were searching for the attackers.

Similar attacks have taken place in the area before. Local separatist groups claimed responsibility. In January this year, gunmen abducted a group of workers from a coal mine in Bolan district and shot them dead in a nearby mountainous area. Authorities later recovered 11 bodies and three injured people from the spot.

Balochistan, a province rich in gas and minerals, has seen no major attacks in nearly two decades. The separatists are demanding a large portion of the income from gas and mineral resources in the province for the local people. Baloch separatists have long wanted to secede from Pakistan.
