Floods damaged 5,000 hectares of crops in Haor

State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk has said that 5,000 hectares of crops have been damaged due to flash floods in Haor of Sunamganj.

He made the remarks at a press conference on Monday, April 11 at noon in the Secretariat's meeting room of the ministry to inform about the flash flood situation in Haor.

The state minister said it was raining in advance due to climate change. River erosion occurred in three places. Crops are produced in 2 lakh 23 thousand hectares of land.

Crops of 5,000 hectares of land have been damaged. A six-member committee has been formed headed by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. They will report within 10 days.

He said, "Every year I am ready to deal with the floods in advance, this time too. But many say work has been delayed. Work is delayed because we start work in December and finish in February.

But I could not finish the work on time as the water was standstill. Started in January, the work was in its final stages. 90 percent of the work has been completed.

He added that there were allegations of corruption in the dam. However, I would like to say that if there is any negligence in this case, action must be taken.
