Ctg Depot fire: Another fire service worker dies

Gauchul Azam, 22, a fire service worker who was burnt in an explosion at a BM container depot in Sitakunda, died while undergoing treatment.


He died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery's Intensive Care Unit at around 3 am on Sunday.

Dr. SM Ayub Hossain residential surgeon of the institute told.

He said, '70 percent of Gauchul Azam's body was burnt. His trachea was burned."

Dr. Ayub said six people, including Gauchul Azam, were brought to Dhaka by helicopter from Chattogram on June 05. He was admitted to the ICU on the same day. Later, when the condition deteriorated, he was given life support.

He said 19 people burnt in the blast were admitted to the institute. Two of them are in ICU.

Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the fire service, told that Gausul Azam, one of the two staff members at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, had died.

Gausul Azam, son of Azgar Ali, joined the service in 2018 at Monirampur in Jessore. His wife Kakli Akhter and 6-month-old son live in the village house.

Gausul Azam's death has so far killed 10 firefighters and left three others missing.

A fire broke out at a private BM Container Limited depot in the Bhatiari area of ​​Sitakunda on June 04 at around 9 pm. So far 46 people have died in this incident.
