Daak Bhabon
The 'Daak Bhabon', the headquarters of the Postal Department, officially started its journey in the form of a post box. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the state-of-the-art building at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday, May 27 in the morning. At the same time, the Prime Minister also inaugurated new stamps to make the day memorable. He was virtually added to the program from Ganabhaban.

After its establishment on 20 December 1971, the journey of the Postal Department started with a few rooms in the then Dhaka GPO building. In space crisis, the administrative headquarters of the Postal Department has been operating on the third floor of the Dhaka GPO building at Gulistan in Dhaka since independence.

As the Dhaka GPO is about 60 years old, the upward expansion of the building is not possible. As a result, the office work environment and mobility were being severely disrupted due to lack of space. In this situation, the government decided to set up a separate post building with modern facilities and aesthetics as the headquarters of the postal department. Then on March 20, 2018, the ECNEC meeting approved the construction project of Dak Bhaban. The building has been constructed on a quarter of an acre of land at a cost of Tk. 91.73 crore for use as an office of the Postal Department.

The post building has a well-equipped and rich library, modern postal museum, spacious auditorium, cafeteria, day-care center, medical facilities, fire-fighting system and other information technology facilities including round-the-clock WiFi.

A special commemorative stamp has been issued to commemorate this historic moment for the Postal Department at the inauguration of the Postal Building.
