'Democracy won't develop if all parties don't participate in elections'

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said, "If all parties do not participate in the elections, there will be no competition. Democracy will not develop."
The CEC said this in its concluding remarks after a meeting with the editors and senior journalists of the electronic media on Monday. The meeting was held in the conference room of the election building at Agargaon.
CEC Habibul Awal, who presided over the meeting, further said, "It is not possible for us to force anyone to participate in the elections or not. We have a responsibility to make sure that everyone is involved in the election."
Earlier, the Election Commission held a dialogue with academics, prominent citizens and journalists of printed newspapers.
Today, 39 editors and senior journalists were invited to the fourth phase of the dialogue. However, 26 people attended the dialogue.
