Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced that the Dhaka Elevated Expressway will be opened for traffic from South Kawla of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Tejgaon Railway Station in December 2022.

After inspecting the work of an elevated expressway in the Banani area of the capital, obaidul Quader said this on Sunday morning.

Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the overall progress of the project has been 30.50 percent. When the whole work is completed, the traffic congestion in Dhaka city will be reduced to a great extent. Besides, it will have a positive impact on GDP.

In the third phase of the project, the Dhaka Expressway project has clashed with the railway's 'construction of third and fourth dual gauge lines on the Dhaka-Tongi railway line' on the east side of Kamalapur railway station on the way from Magbazar railway to Kutubkhali. Doubts have been raised about finding a place for a pillar on the expressway. According to the design, two railway tracks of the railway project are planned to be set up at the Shahjahanpur Foot Overbridge area where there was space for the pillars of the expressway. In such a situation, the project will be implemented in coordination with the railways and the design of the elevated expressway will be changed if necessary, the bridge minister said.

In the third phase of the expressway from Magbazar to Kutubkhali on Chattogram Road, only two parts have been completed. The project cost has been estimated at Tk. 8,940 crore. Of this, the government will bear Tk. 2,413 crore.
