The defending Champion West Indies have been knocked out from the Super Twelve of the T20 World Cup 2021. Their star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement shortly after the team was dropped.

Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 20 runs on Thursday in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, the Lankans made 189 runs for 3 wickets. Chasing the target, the Caribbeans can reach 169 runs for 8 wickets.

Announcing his retirement after the match, Bravo said: "I think the time has come. Had a very good career. I have represented the West Indies for 18 years through some ups and downs. When I look back, I am grateful to have been able to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long."

Bravo, 38, has said goodbye to international cricket once before. He broke his retirement in 2019 with the aim of retaining the T20 World Cup title. Bravo has played in all seven World Cups so far. He has tasted winning the World Cup in 2012 and 2016 in the jersey of the West Indies team.

Bravo, the familiar face of franchise competitions around the world, aims to spread his vast experience among young people, saying, "I will try now to pass on my experience and knowledge to young players. I think the white ball version has a bright future for West Indies cricket and it is important for us to support and encourage the boys."

Bravo has played 90 T20 matches for the Caribbean. He scored 1245 runs with the bat and took 78 wickets with the ball. He has played in more than 500 matches in all types of T20s.

The farewell stage did not up to the mark for Bravo. His team has been eliminated from the World Cup after losing three of the four matches in the Super Twelve.

However, he is not disappointed.

"We didn’t expect such a World Cup. We should not feel sorry for ourselves. It was a tough competition. We should keep our heads high."
