E-gates launched in Shahjalal: Immigration in 18 seconds

Bangladesh has launched e-gates (automatic border control systems) as the first country in South Asia. It has been launched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. A passenger can complete his own immigration in just 18 seconds.

Additional IGP of the Special Branch (SB) Monirul Islam and Director of the e-Passport Immigration Project Brigadier General Sadat Hossain were present at the Shahjalal International Airport during the e-gate activities on Tuesday. The passenger immigration process is completed through the e-gate in front of them.

Confirming the matter, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam said a total of 15 e-gates have been installed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Of these, 12 e-gates have been installed in the departure area of ​​the airport and 3 in the arrival area. The gate was used experimentally on Sunday and Monday. It shows that a passenger can complete his or her own immigration in just 18 seconds.

Besides, 6 e-gates have been set up at Shah Amanat International Airport and 6 at Osmani International Airport.

The executive director of the airport said that some passengers had successfully completed the immigration through e-gate on an experimental basis yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday) e-gate has been fully introduced for passengers. Passengers with e-passport can cross e-gate in just 18 seconds after verification.

According to the Bangladesh Immigration and Passport Department, when a person goes to the e-gate with an e-passport, if he puts the e-passport in a certain place, the gate will open immediately. Then the camera will take a picture of that person after standing under the gate according to certain rules. After that, if all goes well, the passenger will be able to cross the immigration in a few seconds. However, if a passenger makes a mistake, the red light will come on. Then the officials in charge will assist the passenger in using the e-passport properly.
