A magnitude 5.2 earthquake has shaken Turkey. The quake affected several eastern provinces on Friday night. However, no major casualties have been reported so far.

The quake affected Bingöl, Erzurum, Erzincan, Elâzığ and Diyarbakır provinces, a spokesman for the Turkish Interior Ministry said. However, no casualties were reported. He said a search operation was still being carried out there.

The quake struck at 9:28 pm local time on Friday, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). It originated at a depth of 15.51 km from the surface.

At least five aftershocks were felt after the quake. The strongest tremor was 2.6.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook the Turkish province of Elazig in early 2020. At least 41 people were killed and more than 1,500 were injured. Besides, several thousand more people became homeless.
