'Come forward to protect the environment of Haor'

President Abdul Hamid called on all to come forward to protect the resources and environmental balance of the Haor area.

He made the call at an exchange of views at the Rastropoti Abdul Hamid Auditorium in Itna on Monday evening. He held the meeting in Itna Upazila with local people's representatives and people of different classes and professions.

During the meeting, the President said that the canals and rivers in the haor area are gradually filling up due to sand coming along the upstream slope. As a result, the ecological balance of the haor area is being disturbed and the livelihood is also being affected. Haor is a unique natural resource of Bangladesh. Therefore, any development project in the haor area should be given priority to the environment.

Kishoreganj-4 MP Rezwan Ahmed Tawfiq, Press Secretary to the President Joynal Abedin, Chairman of the District Council Advocate Zillur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Alam, Police Super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, Chairman of the Sub-District Council Chowdhury Kamrul Hasan and many others were present.
