Certificate of 10 thousand fake freedom fighters canceled

From the last BNP period till 2010, the certificates of 10,000 fake freedom fighters included in the list of freedom fighters have been canceled.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque made the remarks while answering a question from Awami League MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury.

In his question, Nurunnabi Chowdhury wanted to know the number of freedom fighters in the country as well as how many fake freedom fighters have been identified.

In reply, the minister said, 'The number of gazetted freedom fighters in the country is one lakh, 83 thousand 560 people. Between 2002 and 2010, the names of those who were published in the civilian gazette were checked and selected and about 10,000 civilian gazettes were canceled.

The Minister for Liberation War Affairs mentioned that the process of verification and selection regarding the new inclusion of heroic freedom fighters and cancellation of the names of the accused persons is underway.

Freedom fighters will get a digital certificate.

Replying to a question from Awami League MP Benazir Ahmed, the Liberation War Affairs Minister said, "The validity of the provisional charter issued in favor of the heroic freedom fighters has been suspended."

"We are in the process of issuing digital certificates (permanent certificates) in favor of all heroic freedom fighters and digital smart ID cards in favor of living heroic freedom fighters," he said.

Once the digital certificate is ready, it will be distributed simultaneously through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
