Finland's surprise to lose world champions

Finland's surprise
Finland won by 2-0 margin  in a friendly match in Paris on Wednesday night. Marcus Forss and Onni Valakari scored two goals in the first half. This is their first win against France.

France had won the previous eight matches against Finland. This time they got the opposite taste. The Finnish defense could not break even though the ball was well advanced in possession, attack and creation of opportunities.

Finland went ahead in the 28th minute against the flow of the game. After getting the ball from Rasmus Karjalainen, Marcus Forss quickly found the net, avoiding the goalkeeper.

Finland doubled the lead before the world champions could handle the push. After getting a pass from Joni Kauko, Valakari found the net with a bullet speed shot from outside the D-box. The goalkeeper did not reach the ball even after jumping.

This is the first time since 2015 that France have conceded two goals in the first half of a match on home soil.

The gap could have widened at the start of the second half. In the 48th minute, the goalkeeper saved Kauko's shot in exchange for a corner.

Desperate for a goal, France shook Finland with one attack after another. But the net was never seen again. In the 57th minute, Antoine Griezmann and Anthony Martial were sent off. They also could not bring goals to the team.

France will face Portugal in the League of Nations next Saturday. Will play against Sweden on Tuesday.
