Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said, "Ukraine and Russia are the biggest food exporters. There is a war going on now. Food will not be available from there. Failure to produce food and depend on others can lead to famine. So we have to produce our own food."

He also said that various forms of cooperation would be extended to the farmers to increase food production in the country.

The Agriculture Minister said this while inspecting the exhibition plot of a new variety of BRRI Rice-92 in the Kashimnagar area of Singair Upazila of Manikganj this morning.

The Agriculture Minister said, "Bangladesh is a populous country. Every year 20 to 25 lakh new babies are born in this country. We need to innovate new varieties in agriculture to ensure food security. As the agricultural land in the country is reduced, we have to increase production through new varieties."

He further said, "Houses, factories, and roads are being constructed in our country. As a result, agricultural land is declining. To ensure food security, productive new varieties of paddy and other agricultural products have to be produced. Scientists in our country are inventing new productive rice. The new variety of BRRI Rice-92 invented in the country will produce 30 maunds per bigha.

Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Saidul Islam, Director General of Agriculture Department Benazir Alam, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif, Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Department Abu Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Singair Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dipan Debnath, Upazila Agriculture Officer Tipu Sultan, and others were present at that time.
