Protest of Garment workers in Mirpur

Garment factory workers are protesting in the capital's Mirpur demanding arrears of wages. The workers started the protest in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur Section 2 on Sunday,January 31 in the morning.

According to eyewitnesses, workers of the Korean Jeans Manufacturing Factory in the area started protesting in front of the Sony Cinema Hall around 8 am. At that time the traffic on that road was stopped.

Pallabi Model Police Station SI Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter.

He said that after receiving the news of the workers' protest, the police went to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Outraged workers said they had not been paid for the past four months. The authorities are not paying the salary on various pretexts. At one stage they were forced to take to the streets.

Mirpur Shah Ali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiq Hasan said, 'Workers of a factory called Korean Jeans Manufacturing have been protesting by blocking the road since 8 am. Police are trying to contact the owner party. Attempts are being made to remove the workers from the road to normalize the movement.'
