6 injured in Sayedabad gas cylinder blast

Six people were burnt when a gas cylinder exploded on the ground floor of Awal Amirul Motor Parts Market at Sayedabad in Jatrabari of the capital. The accident took place on Saturday, November 13 at around 6:30 pm.

The burn victims were rescued and admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The condition of five of them is critical.

The injured are Abul Kalam (50), Shamsuddin Robin (40), Ripon (45), Shafiqul Islam (40), Bishwanath (65), and Kabir (38).

The matter has been confirmed by Dr. SM Ayub Hossain the resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

"We have brought here six people who were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in Sayedabad," he said.

"The condition of five of them is critical. They may be taken to the ICU."

He further said that 80 percent of Abul Kalam, 60 percent of Shamsuddin Ripon, 78 percent of Shafiqul Islam, 34 percent of Bishwanath, 85 percent of Kabir, and 5 percent of Robin were burnt.

Everyone except Robin has been kept post-operative. Besides, Robin is undergoing treatment in the emergency department.

One of the injured Shamsuddin Robin said that he has a welding shop in that market. Suddenly a spark of fire came from the shop next door and his hands and face were burnt. He could not provide any information on how the blast happened.
