A gas pipe explosion in a residential area of ​​China has killed at least 11 people. Another 37 people were injured. The bomber struck shortly after 8:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 13 in the city of Xi'an in Hubei province, according to local media reports.

According to CNN, 144 people have been evacuated from the area since the blast.

The government said the blast caused casualties as well as many people trapped in the rubble. Pictures spread through social media show rescuers continuing rescue operations in the wreckage.

However, it is not yet known how the explosion happened. The government has said it is investigating the cause of the blast.
