Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the Chinese government has started work to deliver vaccines before Eid al-Fitr. He said Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming had recently said that the vaccine would start arriving in Dhaka before Eid.

On the other hand, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has specified that the Chinese vaccine will come on May 10.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also establish ties with China and Russia, he said.

Momen said, "The Ministry of Health will decide when and how much dose of vaccine will come."

"China has a five-day May Day holiday that will end on May 05.Everything will be closed in China because of this holiday," he said.

Russia and the United States are also in contact to get the vaccine, the minister said, adding that "it will take some time as the vaccine will be produced on order basis."

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "The government will procure vaccines at any cost to protect the people from coronavirus. We're bringing in more vaccines, it doesn't matter how much it costs."

In addition to being sold commercially, China will supply five lakh doses of vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift.
