5 killed in Gobindganj road accident

Five people have been killed in a head-on collision between an easy bike and a bus on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Kalitala in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj Upazila. The dead were all autorickshaw passengers.

The accident happened on Friday morning.

Arifganj station officer of Gobindganj Fire Brigade Arif Anwar told: Three easy bike passengers named Tuku Amin (65), Sohag (22), and Ashraf (70) died on the spot.

"When five seriously injured passengers were taken to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared two people named Ripon (32) and Sujan (40) dead," he added.

He further said that three passengers named Khokon (38), Siddique (40), and Sajedul (38) are currently undergoing treatment.

According to locals, the easy bike was going to the Fashitala with passengers from Gobindaganj. The accident took place within 200 feet of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station.

Gobindganj Highway Police Station OC Khairul Islam told, “I have seized the bus and brought it to the police station. 4 bodies have been handed over to relatives. The bus driver or helper could not be apprehended.

He also said that the police would file a case in this regard.
