A young man named Ashraful Islam (28) was hacked to death in Rangpur due to a dispute over a road. Police have arrested 5 people in this incident.

Ashraful's younger brother Siam (20) has been admitted to the hospital. His condition is critical.

The incident took place in the Baharkachna Jummatari area of ​​the city around 8 pm on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ashraful, son of Shahjahan Miah of the area.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter.

The detainees were identified as Yasin Ali, 23, son of late Azizul Islam of Jummatari area, Ariful Islam, 28, son of Azizul Islam of Shalban Mistripara area of ​​the city, Shahin Islam, 21, son of Rafiqul Islam of Amashu Kukrul area, and Ibrahim, 19, son of Abdul Khaleq of the same area. Nayan Hossain, 21, son of late Momin Hossain of West Jummapara area.

According to the locals, there was a long-running dispute between the two sides over the road to the house. The quarrel between them started around 8 pm on Friday. At that time, his accomplices including Yasin and Ariful hacked Ashraful and Siam with sharp weapons and injured them. The locals later rescued them in critical condition and took them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Ashraful dead. Siam is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Haragachh Police Station OC Rezaul Karim said, after receiving the news, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Five people have been arrested from the spot. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
