The incident took place in the Abu Para area of ​​the Galenga union of the Upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Langrui Mroo, 65, chief of Abu Para, his son Rungthui Mroo, 42, Lengrung Mroo, 38, Menwai Mroo, 29, and Ringrao Mroo, 26.

According to police and locals, the family had been arguing with the neighbors over deforestation for Jhum cultivation. On Friday morning, due to a quarrel between the two groups, the residents of the neighborhood attacked the family including the head Langrui Mroo with local weapons. Longrui Mroo and his eldest son Rungthui Mroo died on the spot. The rest died on the way to the hospital.

Menrat Mroo, chairman of Galinga Union in Ruma Upazila, said the villagers had hacked the head of the village and his four sons. All five died.

Ruma police officer in charge (OC) Abul Kashem said, "I have received news that five people including father and son have been hacked to death. The police force has been dispatched to the spot.

Bandarban Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Pal said accurate information was not available as the site was inaccessible. I have heard that the neighbors have killed them with sharp weapons. The exact information will be known after going there.
