Head-on collision between covered van and Laguna

Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a covered van and a Laguna in Narsingdi. At least five people were injured in the incident.

The accident took place at around 2.30 pm on Friday, July 18 at the Bhatpara Mint intersection on the Panchdona Tongi Regional Highway.

The deceased were identified as Alamin, 10, son of Saiful Islam of Dewanganj village in Banglabazar of Sunamganj district, Hafizul Islam, 46, of Bateshwar village in Belabo upazila and Chan Mia, 55, son of Mozafar Hossain of Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur.

Police and eyewitnesses said a covered van was heading towards Tongi from Panchdona. On reaching Panchpara Dona Tongi Regional Highway at Bhatpara Mint, a passenger Laguna from Ghorashal collided. At this time, the front part of the Laguna twisted and fell on the side of the road. Three people died on the spot. Five others were injured. They were later rescued and treated at Sadar Hospital.

Yusuf Mia, in-charge of Panchdona outpost, said the deadly covered van was seized in the incident. The injured were rescued and sent to Sadar Hospital.
