'Hefazat's main purpose was to gain political advantage'

Minister of Home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal criticized the violence in Hefazat-e-Islam, saying, "Such cruelty, oppression and atrocities are not the purpose of any religion. Their main objective was to gain political advantage by creating anarchy."
The minister said this while inspecting the houses of the victims of Hefazat-e-Islam attack, vandalism and arson at Madhupur in Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj on Friday, May 07.
"Religion never commits violence, Islam is a religion of peace," he said.
"The law will run at its own pace, no one will be exempted here," he added
Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Habibur Rahman, Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Noor Alam, retired Major General AKM Humayun Kabir, Munshiganj District Superintendent of Police Abdul Momen, District PIB Md. Anwarul Haque, Sirajdikhan Upazila Chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed and others were present there.
