Police have arrested a young man in Kushtia on charges of criticizing the Prime Minister on social media.

He was arrested last night and sent to jail.

Kushtia Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbirul Alam confirmed the information.

The arrested youth Tipu Sultan Ibrahim (23) is a resident of Kumargara village of Kushtia Sadar Upazila and a student of a private polytechnic college.

OC Sabbirul Alam said, 'Sultan Ibrahim came live from his Facebook account at 12.15 am last Tuesday. There he spoke about the activities of online business organization E-Orange and complained about the government's involvement with it. Mentioning the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the patron of all this, he spoke harshly about her.

A man named Ejazul Hakim of the same area filed a case against Ibrahim under the Digital Security Act at Kushtia Model Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.

The plaintiff in the case mentioned that Ibrahim's actions caused deep resentment among the people in the area. He feared that the law and order situation in the area would deteriorate, tarnishing the image of the state.

The statement of the case further said that many people have shared it after watching the video. Everyone was shocked. The Prime Minister's reputation has been tarnished by such actions.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station said, "Ibrahim was arrested around 9:30 last night and sent to jail through the Kushtia Judicial Magistrate's Court."
