Journalist Rozina Islam's bail hearing today

Rozina Islam, a senior reporter of Prothom Alo, is scheduled to hear her bail application in a case filed by the Ministry of Health under the Official Secrets Act and Penal Code on Thursday, May 20. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

Earlier on Wednesday, the investigation into the case against journalist Rozina Islam was handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB).

Investigating officer of the case and Inspector (Investigation) of Shahbagh Police Station Arifur Rahman told yesterday, ‘We have received the papers for handing over. It has already been handed over to DB. The Ramna zonal team of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police has taken charge of the investigation of the case.

Journalist Rozina Islam was detained at the secretariat for about six hours on Monday while performing her professional duties. At this time she was harassed. She later fell ill. Relatives claim she was tortured physically and mentally. Later, Rozina Islam was taken to Shahbagh Police Station for treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She was handed over to the Shahbagh police from the secretariat around 8:30 pm. She was brought to the police station at around 8.45 am.

Late at night, Rozina Islam has been accused of collecting government confidential documents and attempting to destroy Bangladesh's state relations with the outside world.

Journalists have been protesting at the police station since Monday night. After many dramas, the police arrested Rozina Islam in the case and produced her in court on Tuesday morning. At the same time, the police applied for remand for questioning Rozina. On the other hand, Rozina Islam's lawyers applied for bail. At the hearing that day, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected the remand application and fixed May 20 for a further hearing on Rozina's bail application. Rozina was taken to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur on a court order that day.
