They received the award jointly in medical science for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.

The Nobel Committee announced the winners at a ceremony on Monday, October 4 at noon in Bangladesh time in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Thomas Perlmann, the secretary of the Nobel Assembly and the Nobel Committee,  telephoned the Nobel laureates to announce the good news.
