Kazakh man working at Rooppur power plant stabbed to death

A Kazakh man working at the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Pabna has been stabbed to death. Police have arrested three Belarusians working on the project on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The incident took place in Rooppur's Green City residential area on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Vladimir Sevats, 50, a Kazakh national who was working as a storekeeper for Nikimit, a project contractor. His body was sent to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy.

Ishwardi police officer in charge (OC) Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

He said clashes broke out between foreign workers in the project's greenhouse residential area on Saturday night. At that time, the Kazakh citizen was stabbed to death.

Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and recovered the body.

Another Kazakh worker was injured in the clashes. He was sent to Dhaka for better treatment, the OC said.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Masood Alam told: "Reason behind the murder is yet unknown. Police are investigating the incident."

Three Belarusians working on the project have been taken into police custody for questioning. They used to live in that residential area, 'he said.

Nothing can be said right now without investigation and no case has been filed yet in this regard, he added.
