Four members of a Muslim family were killed when a pickup truck overturned in London, Ontario, Canada, police said.

The pickup truck climbed off the road onto the sidewalk and ran over them on Sunday, local news agency Reuters reported; The country's police have described the incident as a hate crime against Islam.

Police say Weltman has no criminal record and is not a member of any racist group. He was arrested without incident in the parking lot of a market about 64 kilometers from the scene.

At the time of his arrest, he was wearing an armor type vest and no evidence was found that he had any accomplices in the crime.

The victims were identified as Syed Afzal, 44, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, and their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzal, according to the London Free Press. Syed Afzal's 84-year-old Mao was killed, but his name could not be confirmed. Afzal's nine-year-old son Fayez Afzal is safe despite being injured.
